Welcome to our BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
This week's guest is Corena Lipkowitz of Bella Blue Embroidery.
Please read on as Corena tells us a little bit about herself, her business, and her inspiration.
A: I am a mother of three daughters, Katarina, Calysta and Darrian. They are my inspiration to fun and funky items I make. I live with my husband in Michigan. during the day I work for four charter schools in Detroit where I am in marketing and admissions for each school. I am the face of the school in the public.
Q: How did you get started using an embroidery machine?
A: I started embroidering when my oldest daughter, Katarina, was born. I did this because it was next to impossible to find anything with her name on it unless I went to Germany or Russian where it was popular. I have fiddled with digitizing for over 10 years making creations live inside my laptop and never sharing.
Q: How long have you been sewing?
A: I have been sewing since I was 9 years old with my Grandmother, Edra's, help. Barbie was my first model and wearing of my experimental over the top clothing. I learned how to sew the old fashioned way by french seams as a finish...that's what I get for living in a small town I guess. I discovered the serger and absolutely can't live without it!!! I tried to learn the secret to quilting however, I can make the top piece but putting all 3 layers together I cannot do so I hire that out!! lol
Q: What is your favorite item to make?
A: I love to make pieces that really make people happy. I love getting feedback on items I give people because even though I embroider I don't always give it as a gift. When I do people are surprised that I spent time on them and gave them my work.

Q: What type of items do you create and sell?
A: I sell mostly embroidered items and very little boutique clothing anymore. When I create my unique children's clothing you will find me art juried art shows with it. I don't put it up online.
A: My Snowman Chenille Jumper
Q: In all of your years of embroidering, what is the best tip you've heard and would like to pass on?
A: In all my years of embroidery the thing I have learned the most is to hit the stop button before I stick my hand into or near the needle of my monster machine. I cracked a bone in my hand by not doing so.
Q: Any closing words of wisdom?
A: A personalized gift is a thoughtful gift.
